Migration In and Out of Germany. November, Saturday 08.

Friday - Saturday, Nov. 7 - 8, 2008 Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - 14 clock hours, total Minnesota Humanities Center FEE: $180.00, includes breakfast, lunch, and snack both days. Join social studies and German teachers for a two-day workshop, Migration In and Out of Germany. During the workshop, the presenter will provide an overview of migrating patterns and socio-historical and political influences, and will discuss cultural and literary texts appropriate for familiarizing students with the subject matter. Participants will engage in small group discussions that focus on minorities (primarily Turks/Roma and Sinti). A special emphasis will be placed on a recent German feature film and its implementation into the curriculum. On Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. there will be a special session conducted in German. Hand-outs in English and German will be provided. Overnight accommodations available Friday night, Nov. 7, 2008: Preference will be given to participants travelling from outside the 7-county metro area. An additional $20 fee for the room is payable by check at registration check-in.
